Among the facilities scheduled to be closed by the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is the Lawrenceville branch. It opened to much fanfare on May 10, 1898, as the library's first branch. Iron detailing on the stacks reflects a bygone era. The Carnegie Library is closing five of its 19 branches next year to cover a projected $1.2 million budget deficit.
