• What to do: New rules this year at the Pennsylvania Game Commission's 29 public shooting ranges require shooters to have in their possession either a valid hunting and furtaker license or a range use permit. The annual permit costs $30. The PGC says range use revenues are intended help pay for recent and costly renovations including lead remediation, safety barrier reconstruction, range redesign, parking lot construction and other upgrades. The permits are available at www.pgc.state.pa.us. The public range in Allegheny County has 20 firing points at 100-yard targets and 10 50-yard handgun firing points. It's located at State Gamelands 203 off Mingo Road and State Route 910 near Wexford.
