Please, Bob Nutting, sell the Pirates! Sell the team to someone who is truly committed to the baseball fans of Pittsburgh. Sell the team to someone who is truly committed to having a winning Pirates team. The tremendously loyal Pirates fans deserve a team owner who wants a winner, not just a source for personal income.

You have demonstrated over and over again that you will not spend the money needed to really contend for a championship. You toyed with us last year. You got us all excited. Fueled our hopes. Then you did nothing in the off-season to improve the team.

We need starting pitching, but you wouldn’t pay A.J. Burnett. We need help at first, but you wouldn’t pay to keep Garrett Jones or Justin Morneau. We will probably lose Neil Walker and Russell Martin for next year because you won’t pay them what any other team in baseball will be happy to pay to have them. Who’s next? And in the middle of a pennant race with the opportunity to really compete, you let the trading deadline go by without spending a dime of your millions to improve the team.

You talk a good game. But everything comes down to one thing … how it affects your wallet.

If you really love the team, the fans and the city, then sell the team to someone who can afford to spend and who is committed to winning and wants a winner as much as the fans do. You’ll not get a better price than you will right now.

You’re using our great ballpark, our loyalty, our city and our money just to make money for yourself. Sell!
