Sophie Masloff deserves a ballpark tribute

After the death of former Mayor Richard Caliguiri the city of Pittsburgh inaugurated a foot race in his honor.

Likewise, after the death of Mayor Bob O’Connor, what had been the Schenley Park golf course was renamed The Bob O’Connor Golf Course in his memory.

With the recent death of former Mayor Sophie Masloff, I think her name should also be immortalized.

May I suggest a section in PNC Park be named in her honor? In right field there is a section where disabled people (some in wheelchairs) are seated. I suggest that area be named “Sophie’s Choice” and an appropriate sign be installed above it.

Sophie was the first Pittsburgher to suggest that a new ballpark be built on the North Side with the buildings of the city serve as the background to the park.

A fitting tribute to a remarkable lady.
