Police, step up efforts to help pedestrians

Regarding last Sunday’s article “It’s Still Not Always Safe to Cross the Street: Several Hundred Pedestrians Hurt Seriously Each Year” (Aug. 11): The problem that I see as a pedestrian crossing Carson Street on the South Side is that drivers are speeding and running red lights.

Those of us crossing Carson Street at Hot Metal Street to go to work are risking our lives every day. A little police presence would be nice.
