With all the attention focused on last Saturday’s country music concert, I had the opportunity the evening before to be reminded that Pittsburgh has a quite excellent symphony orchestra. Accepting an invitation to attend with admittedly limited enthusiasm, I was surprised to discover that my expectation of a quiet and soon-to-be-forgotten evening was not realized.

Lawrence Loh and the symphony performed wonderfully, and when Olga Kern took the stage after the intermission, the concertgoers were treated to a memorable performance by a supremely talented pianist. It was definitely an evening to appreciate and remember for all the right reasons.
