This is a suggestion for the Pittsburgh Pirates from one of their biggest fans.
I understand your anger and disappointment when you strike out or an umpire’s call doesn’t go your way. However, when 38,000 fans come out to see you and millions more are watching your every move on TV, don’t you think you could try a little harder to conduct yourself like professionals, if not gentlemen? If for no other reason, could you do it for the sake of good example to the young men and women who idolize you?
Here are just two examples from the game on the evening of June 27. Player A strikes out and the camera is right in his face as he utters curse words. Player B strikes out in the 10th with three men on; he marches into the dugout and destroys his bat right in front of those watching on TV.
I’m trying to imagine any professional that I know displaying such behavior at work and lasting longer than it would take to write up his/her pink slip.
