Ryan M. Hrobak (“Hating Rural Americans,” Perspectives, June 25) is to be commended for standing up for those of us who live in what has long been dismissed as “fly-over territory.”

For those of us in rural and small-town Pennsylvania, it is also good to hear a voice raised to counter that of an Ivy League-educated politician from Chicago who in April 2008 described us this way: “... they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
