We at Carnegie Science Center were delighted to read your June 9 article, “Pittsburgh’s New Immigrants: Local Students Symbolize Asian Success Story.” We know Rishi and Suvir Mirchandani well. They won first and second place, respectively, in their category at our Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair this year, plus an all-expense paid trip to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

Based on the strength of PRSEF and the regional STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) community, Pittsburgh was selected as the host city for the Intel ISEF in 2012, 2015 and 2018. PRSEF is just one of a broad array of programs and competitions that the science center offers for kids of all ages and backgrounds, to ignite students’ interest in STEM — now and in the future.

We’re fostering a passion for STEM in kids not just for their own edification, but to develop the next-generation STEM workforce for our region and the nation.
