Anti-Catholic smear

Virtually everything Martin Sixsmith says about the Irish “mass graves” is contradicted by the facts (“Shame of the Unwed,” June 10 Perspectives). There is no mass grave, and the boys he cites in the 1970s did not find a grave “full to the brim” with skeletons: They found 15 to 20.

Moreover, reports of maltreatment are also contradicted by government reports in the 1930s. Just as Mr. Sixsmith did with his tale of “Philomena” — who voluntarily gave up her unwed child at the age of 22 — the English atheist is once again making up falsehoods so he can smear the Catholic Church.
