Conquers obstacles

Al Duerig’s letter (“The Obama-Haters Just Won’t Let the President Lead,” June 9) reminded me of a journalist’s comment I heard on a talk show recently: “If President Obama announced that he had found a cure for cancer, the first comments from his detractors would be ‘can you imagine how many oncology jobs he’s losing for our economy?’ ” That is ridiculous but about on the level of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s comment that his “single-most important goal” was to make President Barack Obama a one-term president.

As our president’s second term is winding down, someone should concede that (at the expense of our country and its citizens) their pledge was not realized — and how lucky we all are that it wasn’t.

Credit should be given by all to the president, who has accomplished so much in the face of continuous never-before-seen adversity.

I believe he would win a third term if he were able to run.
