To combat drugs

Regarding your May 31 editorial about heroin (“Heroin in Our Midst”), InterNations, a website providing information concerning laws, culture, etc., for expats and foreign travelers, warns those traveling to Singapore that being caught with even a small amount of specified drugs will result in the death penalty. Needless to say, drug trafficking in Singapore is almost nil.

This probably will seem to many as extreme, but when compared to the magnitude of human tragedy and misery caused by drug trafficking, especially heroin, it may be appropriate.

Sometimes extreme problems require extreme solutions.
