A call to discipline Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

As a Korean War veteran, I’m happy for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl but very troubled by remarks by at least one military official that even though it appears that he walked away from his post or duties, the military might not discipline him after all he’s gone through. What? That is called “a deserter” by military definition and requires punishment. How about asking those who stayed at their posts and survived the hellish conditions, including getting wounded and crippled for life, what they think of that?

I’d like to see veterans organizations everywhere raise hell with Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and require an explanation for this attitude. What is our country coming to? You can walk away from the military simply because you don’t agree and everything is OK? After a health checkup his next stop should be Fort Leavenworth.
