Appalled by Toomey

I’ve been disgusted by Sen. Pat Toomey’s miserable track record supporting veterans, and I’m appalled at his taking advantage of the recent VA scandal. His announcement of a bill to allow veterans to take legal action against VA employees who reputedly destroyed health records is sheer political opportunism (“Toomey Proposes Bill to Crack Down on Abuses at VA,” May 28). Employees are not responsible for funding shortfalls.

Mr. Toomey has repeatedly voted against bills that have funding within them to support the VA. He voted against a bill that would have expanded prosthetic care for veterans who have lost limbs risking their lives on foreign battlefields and which included other benefits for veterans. This bill would have helped many veterans, but Mr. Toomey voted against it and backed a different bill with additional sanctions against Iran. So Mr. Toomey would deprive our veterans of health benefits and job training programs over more sanctions on Iran?
