A public bank makes no sense

It’s rare that an idea as dumb as a public bank makes it’s way into the pages of the Post-Gazette (“Create a Pittsburgh Public Bank,” Forum, May 25). The author credits the Bank of North Dakota with the state’s economic success, which actually is caused by its oil boom. He also implies “Wall Street,” that vague evil force lurking behind every tree, somehow is getting illicitly rich by cheating us all.

Pennsylvania is the only state in the liquor business. It’s a disaster for the citizens, but the politicians love it. A state bank would be even worse. Don’t let it happen here!
