Last Wednesday I was eating lunch and reading the paper. I lost my appetite after reading about Daryl Metcalfe trying to impeach Kathleen Kane (“Rep. Metcalfe Leads Charge to Impeach Attorney General,” May 7).

A few points. I have three children, and my wife and I often talk about how scary the world is becoming. One of the bright spots in our society, however, is that if one of my children came out as gay, we are both sure that our child would do so in a much more tolerant and accepting world than the one my wife and I grew up in. As a society we have made great strides when it comes to accepting one’s sexual orientation.

It seems to me Mr. Metcalfe wants to waste taxpayer dollars to impeach someone who is a better and more empathetic human being than he is. If I were a gay person I would look at Mr. Metcalfe and wonder to myself, “How can you lead us when you don’t like or care to understand us?”

I am not gay but, as I said before, I am grateful that we live in a more accepting world. We don’t need to move backward on this issue; we need to continue to move ahead. As long as people like Mr. Metcalfe are leading us they will only lead us in the wrong direction.

Now I am going to eat my lunch and then read the paper.
