Over the past six years the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon has become one of the nation’s most prestigious running events.

The recipe for success is to mix a top quality staff led by CEO Patrice Matamoros and COO Dee Stathis, the sponsorship of many local and national companies and the cooperation of government officials at all levels. Add an army of 4,000 volunteers with more than 100,000 spectators and 30,000 runners from 49 states and 19 countries and a unique course that winds over five bridges and through 13 neighborhoods, all providing local festivals with bands and cheerleaders.

Stir with a “Run for a Reason” program that has raised more than $1 million for local charities every year and a friendly city whose residents welcome all visitors.

The result — a world-class event that is another example of Pittsburgh pride.
