Many thanks to Dennis Gabos, M.D., for his courageous commentary “A Tale of Two UPMCs” (May 4). As a cardiologist within the UPMC system, he has taken great risks to write this piece, which is highly critical of “UPMC Corporate.” We can only wonder what the repercussions for him will be. I truly wish him the best.
Meanwhile, the best protection against limitations in choice of doctors and hospitals is to rid ourselves of private insurance-based health care and replace it with a single-payer system.
HR 676 — “Expanded and Improved Medicare for All” — is a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced by John Conyers Jr. with 57 co-sponsors, including Pittsburgh’s Mike Doyle. On May 22, single-payer supporters from across the country will converge in Washington to lobby for such reform.
