Mail hold woes

More mail woes from the postal service in Blawnox. Like others, we have misdelivered mail, numerous carriers and vague response from the Blawnox post office. But our biggest complaint is with mail hold. Our mail is put on hold for safety reasons when we are away, obviously to not have mail sitting in the box. There have been numerous problems with this; I will cite just two recent situations.

Mail was put on hold for two weeks. We came home to a pile of some of our mail in our box and a pile of our neighbor’s mail there also. From postmarks it appeared to be from the first day of the hold, so these piles of mail sat in our box for two weeks. The following mail hold, which was for a few days only, was to resume service on a Monday. Mail was delivered on Monday and for a few days. Then along with the regular delivery, a pile of rubber-banded mail showed up in the box. That was the mail from the hold. So while our delivery resumed on time, the held mail that was to be delivered sat around somewhere for several days before it was discovered and brought to us.

These are just two examples. Calls to the local post office were met with indifference. So along with mail being sent elsewhere — a large manila envelope of tax forms with a clearly printed label shouldn’t be that difficult to deliver correctly — the postal situation continues to decline. Based on my reading of other letters to the editor, it would appear to be a serious problem of incompetence in at least the Greater Pittsburgh area.
