Knife lobbying

Regarding the Franklin Regional attacks, I think we can predict the reaction from the National Rifle Association and its political puppets in Harrisburg and Washington. Fearing common-sense reactions by parents and school boards, they’ll insult the victims by rallying to the defense of knives and those who carry them.

Expect a litany of press releases reminding us that knives are arms and those who bear them (like the Franklin attacker) are fully protected by the Second Amendment.

Right-wing bloggers, media pundits and conservative politicians will relentlessly sell the narrative that the victims could have avoided their fates by carrying their own knives. They’ll tell us that wimpy administrators, liberal parents and sissies on the school board prevented students from self-defense by establishing rules prohibiting knives on school property.

Their message for our children: “When knives are outlawed, only outlaws will have knives.”

Be on the lookout for NRA-designed bumper stickers around town: “Knives don’t stab students. Students stab students.”
