I read with interest the article about Cass Gilbert’s rejected design for the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial (“Architect’s Design of Local Memorial Up for Auction,” March 29) as I had just learned of its existence the week before in a talk about the architect given at the University of Pittsburgh.

There is another Pittsburgh connection: “Cass Gilbert’s West Virginia State Capitol,” just published by the West Virginia University Press, was written by my parents, Ann and David Wilkins, who lived in Pittsburgh for more than 40 years.
