Why they move

Janet Louise Martin of East Liberty always writes such intelligent and thoughtful letters that surely she was just kidding when she questions the reasons the police wish to live outside of city limits (“Police Residency,” March 25). As a former teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, I remember many years ago the teachers were awarded the same prerogative, and those who immediately moved said they didn’t want to pay city property taxes and their children wouldn’t have to go to the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Yet city salaries and benefits were better than in the suburbs. It’s a no-brainer.
