Thank you for your recent increase in coverage of both the Affordable Care Act and the local agencies assisting people in our region to enroll in marketplace plans. The late push from the media and politicians seems to have driven home the point and increased the number of people seeking assistance. But the work is far from finished.
As a certified application counselor, I have seen firsthand the great plans that many have been able to buy for themselves. I have seen the relief in people’s faces when they realize they can afford health insurance, some for the first time in their adult lives. But I have also seen the disappointment when I have had to explain that far too many people do not qualify for help due to our state government’s refusal to expand Medicaid. We need to continue to educate people on this issue and hold our representatives at the state level responsible for their inaction.
