I wanted to stay out of any fights between UPMC and others. I wanted to just go to work every day, do my job and get my pay. I cannot stand by any longer silently while the employer that did right by me and my family gets lambasted.
I have worked for UPMC St. Margaret since 1982. I have always been paid fairly. In fact, I get paid a generous salary without a college education. I am watching and listening to folks in the media who work for UPMC saying they have to use public assistance to get by. Why? Are they full time? Do they make sure they get good evaluations so they get raises?
UPMC hired them; it did not adopt them. UPMC offers its employees above and beyond what other employers do. UPMC offered me and my family the best medical/dental/eye benefits around and tuition reimbursement for me, my husband and my children at Pitt. It offers lawyer and adoption fees for folks who adopt, benefits for same-sex partners, discounted gym membership, the list goes on. Just look at a UPMC website and check out for yourself what is available to UPMC employees.
Most important, UPMC treats me with respect. I have had ideas and UPMC let me present these ideas and even implemented them. UPMC has made it clear to me that I am a valued and appreciated employee.
