Academics first

The emphasis on sports throughout our education system is appalling. The process begins in many elementary schools and progressively gets worse through the college and university level. Perhaps our educators, and their students, should focus on education. Compete academically and, hey, maybe people in general will benefit as more top-notch graduates enter the working world.

Leave sports and recreation to the communities. Their sports and recreation programs exist just for that purpose. The whole of society may not agree, but then again it is a matter of focus, understanding purpose and defining appropriate goals. It’s time to get smart, America!
