UPMC greed

I would like to thank the PG’s Steve Twedt for the article “Hospital Charges Can Vary Widely” (Feb. 16), which calls out UPMC for what it is — a greedy, money-grubbing monopoly. Its fight with Highmark is only a sham to corner the market.

UPMC is only concerned about how many Ben Franklins it can get, and not really interested in John and Jane Q. Public’s health and welfare. The proof is that its rates are two or three times more for procedures than at any other hospital in Western Pennsylvania.

Additional proof is the amount of money it is spending having Patrice King Brown making robocalls and TV ads. It’s very annoying to hear that at dinner time. It does not offer an opt-out from those calls. I had to use caller ID and call a UPMC employee to try to get on a do-not-call list. When my wife and I see these ads on TV, we change the channel.
