Voting rights

Your Feb. 14 editorial “Election Fraud: Ex-Felons Should Not Be Barred from Voting” states that in Pennsylvania, after serving their terms, felons must petition for the full restoration of voting rights. I don’t know where you got that idea. Nothing can be further from the truth, and you’re doing a disservice to many of our citizens who continue to believe that felons who have served their time must wait five years before they can vote.

Ever since Dec. 26, 2000 — 13 years ago — felons may register to vote in Pennsylvania the minute they are released from prison.

We have worked many years to be sure that people in this situation know about their rights to vote. Please don’t make us step backward.
