Open for worship

I watched the Saturday evening news two weekends ago in amazement as the scroll across the bottom of the screen announced church after church that was closed or had canceled services.

I have lived my entire life in Pittsburgh and never thought I would see the day when a place of worship closed its doors because we had a little snow on the ground and it was cold. We live in Pittsburgh. I appreciate that there may have been concern about people going out in this bitterness, but it seems to me there was and is an obligation to have the doors open for worship.

I went to church and was joined by nearly 200 people. So the next time your church, no matter what denomination, cancels services, come join me on the South Side at 27th and Jane streets at the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community. I guarantee that we will be open for God’s business.
