Honors for Franco

On Thursday, Franco Harris is receiving the tribute of the Dapper Dan Lifetime Achievement Award (“78th Dapper Dan Dinner & Sports Auction,” Feb. 2 Sports). Only fitting, because Franco is Pittsburgh’s Nelson Mandela. Like Mandela, Franco is a soft-spoken man who shows strength and courage in the face of adversity and is willing to stand up for what he believes, no matter the cost to his reputation — never speaking ill of anyone who attacked him.

Pittsburgh is fortunate to have a man of such loyalty and faith who doesn’t fear what people think but does what he believes is right.

Celebrate the man for what he’s done both on and off the field.
