God’s not a bigot

I was very offended when I saw the Jan. 7 letter “Same-Sex Evil.” In the Bible it says we are ALL made in God’s image. This means God is white, God is black, God is man, God is woman, God is straight, God is gay, God is bi, God is trans, God is lesbian, etc. The only thing God is not is a homophobic bigot. God does not hate! It really annoys me when people use religion to justify hate.

As a Unitarian Universalist, I believe in social justice. As a lesbian, I want the same rights as heterosexuals have. Gay rights are not special rights! Gay rights are human rights. In the Declaration of Independence it says that all men are created equal and that we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This means everyone is to be treated equally. “Pursuit of happiness” means basically to be happy.

If members of the LGBT community want to get married, then let them. Let them because they are happy. Let them because they love their partner and their partner makes them happy.
