The control issue

Columnist Connie Schultz references a book from more than 20 years ago, which may indicate where her mindset is with regard to life issues (“It’s All About Controlling Women,” Jan. 15 Perspectives). The vast majority of people I encounter in the pro-life movement are women — women who recognize that a baby girl in her mother’s womb deserves to be protected and that legalizing abortion has not solved any of the problems facing women (income disparity; affordable, high-quality child care; trustworthy elder care, to name a few).

More than 56 million U.S. citizens have been lost to abortion — many of them female. Research also shows that as many as 60 percent of women feel pressured to abort by boyfriends, parents or friends. That is the real, untold story about “controlling women.”
