Liberal arts value

The article “Liberal Arts Colleges Defending Themselves on Social Media” (Jan. 5) was very timely. The day before the article appeared, I watched KDKA’s high school quiz show. All three schools did well in math and science, but they did not do well with questions on history or literature.

Many years ago, I taught history and English at South Hills Catholic High School (now Seton-La Salle). If my students had done so poorly, I would have considered myself a failure. Liberal arts must be an essential part of education at all levels!
