This past Friday I attended the flower and light show at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. For years, I have attended their shows at least once annually. The shows are always so beautiful. They are also an opportunity to showcase the city in a positive light to visitors, as there are so many cars from other states.
Because of the number in attendance and the poor parking situation, I drove around for 45 minutes trying to park. During that time, I found myself wondering what visitors must be thinking. I wonder how many left and didn’t even see the show. This is not a new problem. Each year it is the same. Is there no way to solve this? Would it be possible to shuttle people from a central location or build a garage?
It’s unfortunate that the experience of seeing something so positive to the city is marred by lack of parking.
