Christmas begins

For those who lament on Dec. 26 that Christmas is over, I have good news. Unlike the commercial holiday season that begins in November, the Christmas season actually begins with the Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve and lasts until the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which this year falls on Jan. 12, 2014.

When I was growing up, we normally waited until Christmas Eve to decorate our tree, consistent with the true season of Christmas. To this day, in our home, we still keep our Christmas tree and lights up at least through the feast of the Epiphany in early January.

So let not your heart be troubled. The true Christmas season has yet to begin and will be with us for another three weeks! Merry Christmas!
