On Nov. 19, the 150-year anniversary of President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was celebrated at the Soldiers and Sailors Hall in Oakland. I felt that it was my civic responsibility to attend the event in recognition of President Lincoln and the brave soldiers who fought and lost their lives in that war long ago.

I would like to express my appreciation to the curator, staff and volunteers who participated in this program. Everyone I met was knowledgeable and keen to share details and stories about the Civil War. I left knowing a bit more about our history and appreciative of all the sacrifices made in defense of the freedoms we enjoy today. In addition, it was great to see staff and volunteers of all ages coming together in making this a top-notch event in an incredible museum.
