Sad JFK memory

Vin Morabito’s Nov. 17 letter “Late November ‘63” reminded me of my Nov. 22, 1963, the day after I celebrated my fourth birthday. You don’t think that a small child would remember that, but while I was sitting on the steps leading to the second floor playing with my new bride doll, I recall my mother’s sudden scream from the living room and loud sobbing. I ran into the room in fear and saw her with her head in her hands, crying as she watched the television. I asked what was wrong and she stated they shot the president!

I sobbed because my mother was hurting, but of course I did not know what it was all about. I was only 4 years old. Little did I know that the entire weekend, my parents, sisters and I would be glued to the television with coverage of the entire events, including yet another shooting on television, and the very sad funeral of the president. I so vividly remember that weekend yet I could not even recollect the Christmas observed a month later that year. To this day, I never forget my bride doll story.
