Troops and veterans deserve much better

In the Sunday Parade magazine (Nov. 10), 11 ways to help our troops were listed. The first one was “upgrade a soldier’s helmet.” This really angered me — to think that we have to ask people to donate money so that our men and women who serve this country are afforded better protection than our money-wasting government provides them. This is a total embarrassment.

It is bad enough that we hold various events to raise money to help our wounded vets get the help that our government should be providing. It seems that we have plenty of money to help illegals and countries that hate us and to send our first lady all over the country just to be on cooking shows — and the list goes on and on — but we can’t take care of our own troops and vets.

This government should hang its head in shame.

Look how much we have spent trying to fix a broken Obamacare website. We could have equipped every one of our troops with a better helmet liner!
