I find the continuing news and opinion coverage regarding the tragic painted dog accident at the zoo abhorrent. Why is this still in front of the public and, more to the point, potentially in front of the courts? It is the nature of accidents that, despite the application of protective regulation and best practices, and common sense, unanticipated poor outcomes do sometimes occur.
In this instance, were a different species dropped into many, if not most, of the zoo exhibits would we not expect harm to the individual so introduced? That's why these animals are in a zoo -- they are wild animals. It is incumbent upon visitors to respect that fact and take precautions against undesirable contact. Let the child rest in peace.
