Football ugliness

While I will never be a great fan of sports, I do glance at the front page of the Sports section. On Oct. 25, the article that I noticed was "Not Your Grandfather's Rivalry" about football rivalries. The story said, "Alabama children learn to hate Auburn before they learn multiplication." Then those children teach their children "to hate equally and unapologetically." The offensive words "hate" and "hatred" were used six times.

We are talking football, for heaven's sake. Why are we teaching children to hate?
