Pregnancy and work

As I read state Rep. Frank Dermody's arguments to expand Medicaid ("Expand Medicaid Right Now," Oct. 20), I was struck by his notion that somehow pregnancy makes a woman unable to seek or procure employment. As a woman who has given birth six times, I can assure the representative that carrying a child is neither a disease nor an incapacitating disability.

It is beyond sad that Rep. Dermody and those who share his outdated views continue to manufacture barriers for women where none, in fact, exist.
