District 7 democracy

What compels the media to report with delight only the malfunction of government and ignore the wonderful democracy at work in this city? On a recent Thursday night there was a well-organized, engaging and interesting debate at the Union Project in Highland Park of the candidates running for the District 7 city council seat.

The number of candidates (five), their presentations and backgrounds were impressive. The quality and wide spectrum of questions asked and the thoughtful, well-prepared responses were most impressive. The real winners are the voters of council District 7!

With all the photographers there, I was surprised to see absolutely no coverage in the PG or on TV -- but there were plenty of fires, murders, etc. What a shame that good news of democracy at work is of so little interest to the media.
