I could not agree more with some of Alex J. Vallas' Oct. 23 letter, "My Dream Is a Test to Get the Best Leaders." Such a basic knowledge test that he suggests would certainly spare us officials such as U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., who voiced concerns during a congressional hearing that stationing 8,000 Marines on the island of Guam may cause it to "tip over and capsize." Or a presidential candidate with so little knowledge of our republic that he thought he had visited "all 57 states" (for your low-information readers that candidate would be our now president, Barack Obama).
Maybe even a better idea would be a sanity test for voters who continue to re-elect such spectacularly ill-informed candidates.
