Living wage legacy

According to an article that appeared in Inside Higher Education in 2008, the phrase "a living wage" is based in "the work of a Catholic theologian, the Rev. John A. Ryan, who wrote a book by that name in 1906."

Given this legacy, why is Duquesne University trying to prevent unionization of its adjunct faculty on religious grounds?
