In a recent editorial, county Councilwoman Barbara Daly Danko's proposal for a moratorium on fracking in Allegheny County parks was referred to as a delay tactic ("Delay Tactic: The County Doesn't Need a Park Drilling Moratorium," Sept. 16).
Is it a delay tactic to reconsider a big decision that will affect our children?
Is it a delay tactic to weigh conservation against the desire for short-term gain?
Is it a delay tactic to examine health risks from fracking-induced air and water pollution?
Is it a delay tactic to say "we learned lessons from coal mining; let's not repeat those mistakes"?
Is it a delay tactic to tell the gas well salesman, "Don't rush me; I'm going to sleep on that"?
No, it's called wisdom.
