The empty 75

I am a huge public transportation advocate. I just got my first "Connect" card and try to use Port Authority transportation whenever I can. That said, I have just about reached my limit watching certain bus routes continue running virtually empty, even during peak hours.

I live in Shadyside where I routinely watch the 75 drive past our block at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. with zero to three people on it. More often than not it is empty! I certainly don't take it, since it runs parallel to the busway, which is a couple of blocks away, and countless routes on Fifth Avenue -- options that can get me anywhere much faster. The 75 also causes traffic headaches on the tiny side streets.

With so many routes being cut in low-income neighborhoods that truly rely on public transit, it perpetuates the perception that much of the East End is completely out of touch. Hear my cry -- cut the 75!
