Climate research

Your Aug. 21 editorial "Change Is Coming" is right on. Most of the press is reluctant to talk about climate change. The dire situation you described needs to be discussed.

There is a second dire situation about climate change that few people know about. There is no safe, proven and affordable solution. Even if Congress stayed on the job and tried to do something about climate change, it would probably do the wrong thing. A breakthrough technology is needed to stop global warming. Windmills and solar panels are not a solution because they can furnish only about 15 percent of the electricity on the grid because their power fluctuates too much and cannot be stored economically.

Put simply, no one seems to know what to do about climate change. Everything tried so far has cost the world about $3 trillion and the situation is getting worse, not better. I think there are some untried proposals that might work. They would be expensive. We need to quit spending money on things that we know cannot solve the problem, such as windmills and solar panels. The money is badly needed for research.
