Prison savings

I just got my copy of Harper's magazine for August 2013.

I turned to my favorite page as I always do: Harper's Index. This is a compilation of various interesting facts.

In this issue two stand out;

1) Average annual cost of detaining an inmate at the military prison at Guantanamo Bay: $900,000;

2) At a supermax prison in the United States: $65,000.

Is this not an argument for transferring those prisoners? This would have the dual beneficial effect of the yearly amount of savings to the taxpayers and closing Guantanamo Bay as promised by President Barack Obama.

Evidently there are several facilities willing to accept them.
