To those who would criticize UPMC's new no-smoking policy, which will take effect next July, as going "too far," imagine leaving your premature infant in the neonatal intensive care unit and passing his nurse on the way out taking her cigarette break. Knowing that she would return in smoky scrubs to care for your oxygen-dependent, 2-pound baby is heartbreaking. This policy should have been in place years ago.
