How many more times will we say 'never again'?

Concerning Doug Shields' June 14 letter ("Toomey's New Issue") about Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey backing off his gun legislation with Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, I seem to remember someone quoted in a news report after the Newtown/Sandy Hook shootings, and I paraphrase: Give it time, like a few months, and all the hyperbole over guns, ammo and their restrictions will decline and the National Rifle Association will breathe a sigh of relief.

Government seems to be backing off, slowing down the demands for a saner weapons policy. Politicians in the back pocket of the NRA are in control.

After the initial horror of it all, we seem to always forget until the next tragic event and lament, "never again."
