I'm writing in response to "Stop Blaming Gov. Corbett for Education Expense Cuts" (June 12 letters).
Early childhood education programs are invaluable to young children as well as their families, so we need to see these strengthened and continued.
I worked with Head Start for years and saw firsthand what an impact this program had on whole families. A dedicated group of teachers met all of their needs, not just children's educational needs but also medical needs, counseling services and parents' career development, among others. We even made visits to the children's homes, dropping off educational materials for parents to use with their children.
In order to strengthen important programs like Head Start, we need to pause the reduction of the capital stock and franchise tax. This would provide the commonwealth with $360 million to put toward all of our vital education programs and social services.
There's no price you can put on education.
